The best water and adventure activities on Fuerte Island

If you're looking for a place in the Colombian Caribbean that isn't yet overrun with tourists, but offers incredible plans, incredible landscapes, and experiences that combine adventure with relaxation... Strong Island It's the destination you've been waiting for.

This is the island CLOSEST to Medellín And, although more and more people are discovering it, it remains a paradise where nature rules and the sea is the protagonist.

And so you don't waste time looking for what to do when you arrive, here we tell you those that, for us, are the best activities: from those that make your heart race to those that are pure relaxation for the soul.

Spoiler: you'll end up wanting to stay longer.

We know you want to make the most of your trip.

So these are the plans you absolutely have to make to get to know the island properly:

The entire Fuerte Island is surrounded by a reef platform (one of the best preserved in the Colombian continental Caribbean). In other words, the marine life here is impressive, and you can experience it in three ways that will delight you.

And be careful, including diving right now would be cheating... we'll leave that for last, because diving in Fuerte Island is the jewel in the crown.

For now, let's go with the plans for all levels:

Explore the reefs 🪸

• Snorkeling: The plan that never fails. With our local guides, you'll visit spots full of life: a spot full of starfish (which are a must-see), and NEVER to touch), another where bubbles rise from the seabed, also the grasslands where countless species feed, and of course, the reefs of Punta del Inglés. All with calm, time, and the guidance of our locals who know every corner.

• Subwing: If you're into excitement but don't want to go to the extreme, you have to try this activity. Subwing is incredible and consists of a board pulled by a boat at low speed, while you go underwater, traveling in seconds through areas that would take a long time to swim. It's zero effort, pure adrenaline, and a sensation unlike anything you've ever experienced. NOTHING that you've tried before.

• Crystal clear kayaks: And if you prefer to stay on the surface but not miss a thing, we offer guided tours in transparent kayaks. From there, you can see everything that's happening below: corals, fish, and the beauty of the sea... without getting wet (although we know you'll want to jump in at some point).

Did you know that the island is of coral origin?

This is why when you walk around it, you find coral fossils camouflaged among the rocks.

Adrenaline has a name: Wakeboard 🏄🏽‍♂️

He wakeboard It is one of those plans that every traveler should try at least once in their life.

If you've never been on a board before, don't worry, we're nervous. Our guides teach you step by step: from how to stand safely, to how to maintain your balance and start riding the sea.

If you have the chance to experience that mix of nerves, excitement, and pride of standing up for the first time, don't miss it.

You challenge yourself, you try, you fall (several times, obviously), and in the end, we trust that you will be gliding as if you've always done it.

Trails with history 🌳

If there is a plan that our travelers always recommend, it is walk to Playa San Diego to watch the sunset. The path is super short, it takes about 20 minutes from La Playita, and it is a spectacle in itself: hanging sloths (for those who do not suffer from myopia, and you can find them in the treetops), donkeys that look at you with absolute calm at every corner and trees so gigantic that they seem like the silent guardians of the island.

And of course, the icing on the cake: a sky display of orange, pink, and purple hues as the sun sets into the sea.

But that's not all. For those who love plans with a little more history, there are trails where entire generations of islanders have passed through, which you can explore on our guided hikes. You'll find the famous walking tree (yes, it exists), the Bonga, the Morgan's Cave, and walk through the town, with that authentic, real and welcoming charm.

These hikes are one of those experiences that blend adventure, history, and tranquility... and that end up winning you over without you even realizing it.

The jewel in the crown: diving on Fuerte Island

If there's one plan that makes Isla Fuerte a UNIQUE destination, it's this one. Diving here is the true hidden gem of the Colombian Caribbean. What's under the water... ugh, it's another world.

And don't just take our word for it, here we share some of the comments we've received about our dive center, Nautilus Dive Center Strong Island:

Bushnell Bass: For Certified Divers

If you are already a certified diver, get ready to meet Lower Bushnell, considered by MANY to be the BEST preserved coral reef in the continental Caribbean. It is 18 km from Fuerte Island and is simply spectacular: a giant underwater plateau, in fact, it is almost the same size as the island, with corals that look like underwater cities, schools of horse mackerel that surround you as if you were part of them, rays, nurse sharks, turtles and visibility that can reach 50 meters.

Labyrinths of crevices hiding a host of species, including snappers and groupers, gardens of giant gorgonians, and overall reef life that makes you never want it to end.

Of course, this isn't just any dive. Bushnell is in the open ocean (that is, a long way from land), with currents and depths of 18 meters to 35 meters. That's why, before we embark on the expedition, our instructors will do a dive with you. Local Fun DiveThey check your air consumption, buoyancy control, and overall fitness level. If all goes well, we'll head to Bushnell, with all the planning and safety a place like this requires.

And believe us: when you arrive, you'll understand why it's one of the best diving experiences you can have in Colombia.

Never scuba dived before? We have a plan for you too.

If you do not have certification, no problem. Here you can start from ZERO with our Discover Scuba Diving, a dive for beginners with all the safety and accompaniment of the only PADI diving center on the island: Nautilus Dive CenterWe'll cover the theoretical part, which will help you gain confidence, and then we'll head out into the water to explore in a controlled environment at depths of over 12 meters.

And, if you end up falling even more in love with diving (which happens almost always), or you dream of learning to dive in the Caribbean, you can get your certification. PADI Open Water Diver right here and continue exploring the depths. Because yes, if you're wondering, this paradise of calm, crystal-clear waters is perfect for taking that first big step.

In the end, that's Isla Fuerte: a place where every plan has its own magic.

From exploring crystalline reefs in a kayak to fulfilling that dream of standing on a wakeboard for the first time. From walking among ancient trees to watching the sun set on San Diego Beach. And of course, the real must-do is being underwater, discovering a world that seems like something from another planet.

Adrenaline, relaxation, or simply seeing life from a different angle: you'll find it all here.

So you know, Isla Fuerte is not for you to be told about, you have to come and experience it. Are you up for it?
